Issue 2 of Like the Wind Running Magazine – US Edition
In spring, we launched Like the Wind USA, a new edition of the magazine you already know and love.
The magazine will keep the heart, craft and story telling that define Like the Wind, with stories drawn from our global edition, along side 16 pages of additional US-focused stories and perspectives curated by US editor Adrienne Perron.
The unseen miles
In issue 2 ofLike the Wind USA, we explore aspects of running culture that are less visible – but no less significant. The true scale of dedication to a goal often goes unseen. As does running in places, societies or scenarios where the act of running itself carries a degree of risk. Yet, despite the challenges, despite all the reasons not to run, we still do.
The feature story in our US edition explores the relationship between astronauts and running; before, during and after space travel. The feature story from our global edition,Ultra-addiction by Micah Ling, takes a compassionate look at the unseen psychological edge of running performance. She explores the complex relationship between substance addiction, obsession, disordered eating, and exercise dependency: “If you’re stuck in a contract with yourself that you’re ready to renegotiate, you’re not alone.” Jeremy Kuhles investigates why women’s Ekiden is overshadowed by men’s: “The essence of Ekiden, I realised, isn’t something you explain. It’s something you feel.”
This magazine brings together a wide range of both written and visual stories from our global community. Whether you’re into perceptive deep reads, punchy short stories, or the impact of a road marathon photo essay, this issue of Like the Wind brings it all together – the windswept trail, the roaring cheer of race day, the focus and flow of the track.
The stories in issue 2 include:
-
On your left: Trail runner Kevin Reilly forms an unlikely partnership with a mountain biker to tackle the Porcupine Rim Trail in Moab, Utah.
-
Mile marker: Podcast hosts Zoë Rom and Kylee Van Horn discuss the spread of misinformation about running online and offer advice on how to find reputable sources.
-

Running has something for everyone and the stories in LtWUSA#2 reflect that. Whether on the road, track or trail, the stories are captivating, inspiring and thought-provoking. All delivered in a high-quality package that is a pleasure to hold and read.
It’s why we run.
